STARTER & TEE CAPTAIN

As Starter at the Links at Spanish Bay I was able to interact with every guest to the fullest extent.

The most important part of my job as Starter was keeping clear records for our Rangers and end of the day reports. I had to keep track of everything including caddie names, cart numbers, tee off times, and club rental forms. Keeping organized notes and records allowed us to perform the highest level of customer service if issues were to rise.

A major part of any Starter's job is to organize tee times. Since the Links at Spanish Bay was a little slower than Pebble Beach Golf Links we were able to shuffle play around to meet their needs. I gathered an understanding that pace of play is directly correlated with how the Starter sends groups out.

Even though our caddie services was outsourced we still had to manage the caddies as the Caddie Managers spent most of their time at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill. Writing down caddie names with specific tee times was crucial for billing purposes. We had to be extremely accurate with these procedures as revenue from Pebble Beach Company could be loss if records were inaccurate.

The last major responsibility of the Starter was to announce the local and daily rules. This included everything from cart path only to environmentally sensitive areas. It also added value to the guest's experience before they started played.

Assistant Golf Professional

GOLF SHOP ATTENDANT

I was introduced to Springer Miller POS Software during my four months at the Links at Spanish Bay. From everything from making a tee time, to performing point of sales for greens fees and merchandise it gave me knowledge that prepared me for my three months at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

Spending the majority of my time in the Golf Shop I improved skills such as customer service, phone call etiquette, and handling cash. When handling cash we performed precise point of sale reports to confirm our sales and allow the Accounting Department to easily keep track of our revenues.

A source of revenue that was highly profitable included our club rentals. Organizing club rentals, keeping notes of club rentals and following strict protocols allowed us to keep track of stolen or broken clubs and take appropriate action if it was needed.

THE BAG PIPER

At 5:30pm every evening, the Bagpiper would come play a song on the first tee of the Links at Spanish Bay. This was my signal to shut down the Golf Shop and enjoy a cold one at Sticks and listen to the Bagpiper. If you have never experienced this unique tradition, I highly recommend it.
